Evolution Diving Malapascua: Firsthand Experience and What You Need To Know

Looking for a dive center in Malapascua you can actually trust?
I’ve been diving since 2013 so I’ve experienced a range of dive centers from those focused mainly on getting you in the water to those that really pay attention to the overall experience.
Evolution Diving Malapascua is firmly in the second category.
I stayed and dived with them in late March 2026 as the first stop of my Philippines dive circuit. Here is my honest take on everything.
Overview
Evolution Diving Center sits right on Bounty Beach in Malapascua Island. It is a full dive resort. You have accommodation, restaurant, and dive operation all in one place.
No extra transport needed for early morning starts. No hunting around for somewhere to eat after a 4:30 AM wake-up and two ocean dives. Everything is right there.
The resort has 16 rooms. Not a flashy luxury property but it is practical, well set up for divers, and built around making your time in the water as smooth as possible.
It is also one of the top 10 Green Fins accredited dive centers in the world. More on that below.
The Transfer Experience

My experience with Evolution Diving Malapascua started before I even reached the island.
I flew into Cebu at 1:30 AM and arranged a private transfer through Evolution directly. My driver Nick was already waiting at arrivals with my name on a sign.
He helped me with my luggage immediately, and we drove to Maya Port with no traffic at that hour. Smooth and fast.
We arrived at the port around 4:30 AM and waited a bit since it was still too dark to cross. At around 5:30 AM the boat captain arrived, the staff helped prepare everything, and I was assisted onto the boat.
I was traveling solo at an hour most people are asleep. Knowing the transfer was already sorted made a significant difference.

On the crossing from Maya Port to Malapascua, I watched the sunrise. A beautiful way to arrive in the island.
The Staff and Culture

Over 70 people work at Evolution Diving Center. That is a large team for a small island resort, and you can feel it in how smoothly everything operates.
I spent time chatting with the staff between dives. Nothing formal, just the kind of easy conversation that happens on boats and dive resorts.
I asked where they were from, how long they had been working there, how they were doing. From those conversations, I could tell they were happy.
They mentioned they enjoy working for Evolution: the owner’s approach, the working environment, the way the place is run. Not perfect, they said, but genuinely good overall. And it was unprompted.
What I noticed beyond the conversations is harder to describe but just as real. Even without ever meeting the owner, you could see how well the place was led.
The reception team was organised. The restaurant staff was efficient. The tank refilling and cleaning area was well managed. The dive guides and boat crew were coordinated.

Everyone knew their role. No one needed to be told what to do.
As a Filipino, I felt genuinely proud seeing a Filipino operation run like this. It’s quite impressive how organized everything is.
The dive briefing was led by Ryan and was clear, well structured, and specific. Key reminders included buoyancy, reef contact, and the particular hazards at Kimud Shoal (yup, hydroids and fire corals). I appreciated the specificity. It was not a generic rundown.
The billing staff were friendly, explained every line item clearly, and gave me a proper business invoice. That level of transparency is not universal. It stood out.
The Dive Operation at Evolution Diving Malapascua

One of the main dive boats is called The Beagle. It is spacious and well equipped, with tanks and gear set up neatly on deck.
Because the water near Malapascua’s shore is shallow, you do not board the Beagle directly from the beach.
A small tender takes you out to the main boat, moored a few minutes offshore. It adds a small step but it is seamless in practice.

For the Kimud Shoal thresher shark dives, departure was around 5:30 AM and the boat ride to the site takes about an hour. During the surface interval between the two dives, breakfast is served on board.
Oatmeal with banana, coffee, tea, and water. Simple and exactly what you need.

One detail that impressed me: while we were still heading back from the dives, Ryan (divemaster) called the restaurant in advance and took our breakfast orders.
When I stepped off the boat and arrived at the resort, my breakfast was already waiting. That kind of thinking ahead is what separates a great operation from a good one.
The dive groups were small. I was in a group of three divers plus a dive master. Smaller groups mean better attention, better reef management, and a better experience overall.
Sustainability and Green Fins

Evolution Diving Center is Green Fins certified and consistently ranked among the top 10 Green Fins operators in the world. If you care about responsible diving and reef protection, this matters. And at Evolution, it shows in practice.
The dive briefings include specific reef protection reminders, not generic ones. Groups are kept small, which directly reduces pressure on the reef.
The team models good buoyancy and reef etiquette throughout every dive. And the overall culture of the dive center reflects genuine environmental care, not just a label on the website.
This is not a center that uses eco-friendly as marketing. The Green Fins accreditation reflects how they actually operate, every day.
The Restaurant
📍 The Craic House — on site at Evolution Diving Resort
I had meals at The Craic House throughout my stay. On arrival day I had a local Filipino breakfast. The food was solid and the convenience of having it right there was a genuine plus, especially on a trip built around very early mornings.
Not having to think about where to eat after a 4:30 AM start and two dives in the ocean is more valuable than it sounds.

Pricing and Billing
As a guide, the two-dive Kimud Shoal trip with rental gear runs around PHP 4,700 (about $80 USD). Without rental gear: around PHP 4,180 (about $72 USD). A marine fee of around PHP 150 (about $3 USD) applies separately.
One practical note: Evolution Diving charges a 5% surcharge for credit card payments. Bring pesos in cash if you want to avoid the fee.
Who Is This Place For?
Evolution Diving Center works well if diving is your main reason for being in Malapascua, and you want an operation that handles the logistics without you having to manage every detail yourself.
It is also a strong choice if you care about sustainable diving. The Green Fins accreditation here is real, not decorative.
It works particularly well for solo travelers. I arrived at 1:30 AM on my own and felt safe and looked after from the moment my driver met me at arrivals. That peace of mind is worth something.
It is less suited for travelers who want a luxury resort experience with high-end facilities. This is a diver’s base, not a boutique retreat. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the beach is right outside, and the focus is firmly on the ocean. If that is what you are looking for, you will be happy here.

The Wrap Up: Evolution Diving Center

I told the staff before I left that I would come back. I meant it.
From the 1:30 AM airport pickup to the hot breakfast waiting when I stepped off the dive boat, everything was handled with care. The operation in Evolution Diving is smooth, the team is genuine, and the diving is as good as it gets in Malapascua.
If you are planning to dive here, this is the center I recommend. For everything you need to know about the diving itself (e.g Kimud Shoal, dive sites, marine life, and tips), read my Malapascua diving guide.
