Taking the Cebu to Bohol ferry? It is a straightforward crossing once you know where to go and what to do with your luggage. If you are travelling with dive gear, that second part deserves a little attention.

I took OceanJet from Cebu City to Tagbilaran in March 2026 after coming down from Malapascua. The crossing took around two hours, and business class gave me a comfortable break after the road journey.

Here is how I would help you plan it, from getting to Pier 1 to finding a ride to Panglao. Let’s dive in!

Cebu to Bohol Ferry: The Essentials

If you are staying in Panglao or around Alona Beach, you want the Cebu City to Tagbilaran route. You will then continue by road to your accommodation.

Those transfer details are from my March 2026 trip. Your fare and journey time will depend on your accommodation, vehicle and traffic.

The main thing is to plan the whole journey, rather than only the ferry. Getting to the pier and reaching your hotel both need time in your schedule.

Booking Your Cebu to Bohol Ferry

I recommend buying your ticket before reaching the port. You can choose your departure, check the baggage allowance and avoid joining the ticket-purchase queue with all your bags.

Use the OceanJet website to check your travel date and select Cebu to Tagbilaran. Read the check-in instructions, confirm your passenger details and save your ticket offline.

A screenshot is useful, but also download the original confirmation if one is provided. You do not want your travel plans depending on whether your phone decides to load an email.

Which class should you choose?

If you are travelling light, tourist class may suit you perfectly well. With a full dive kit, I would compare business class before deciding.

OceanJet’s baggage policy lists a free allowance of 10 kg in tourist and open-air class and 20 kg in business class, with separate rules for trolley bags and hand-carried items. Check the official baggage policy alongside your booking.

I chose business class and found it comfortable. The larger allowance is useful for divers, but compare the actual ticket price and expected baggage charges. An upgrade is not automatically the cheapest choice.

On a later ferry departure from Dumaguete, my luggage weighed 27 kg against a 20 kg allowance, and I paid extra. So yes, weigh your bags first. A business-class ticket does not make seven extra kilos disappear.

PRO TIP: Compare the total cost of your ticket and luggage, not just the fare shown first. Ask how your dive bag will be handled and what additional charges apply.

Getting to Pier 1 and Boarding the Ferry

Pier 1 - Cebu to Bohol Ferry

Show your driver the terminal listed on your ticket and allow plenty of time to get there. Cebu traffic can be unpredictable, particularly if you are coming from the airport or farther up the island.

I arrived from Malapascua by private boat to Maya Port, followed by a road transfer to Pier 1. To share the cost, I asked my resort reception if other departing guests were heading the same way. A couple joined me, which worked well.

If you do something similar, confirm luggage space before agreeing. Three passengers with small backpacks are quite different from three divers carrying their equipment.

My Cebu to Malapascua transport guide covers that journey in more detail.

Once at the terminal, sort your check-in and baggage before settling down for food or drinks. Keep your identification, ticket and cash accessible, and follow the arrival time stated on your booking.

Booking online saves you buying a ticket at the port. You may still need to complete check-in and collect a boarding pass.

If you are asked to pay terminal, baggage or porterage charges, clarify what each payment covers and keep the receipts.

PRO TIP: Choose a sailing that gives you breathing room after your road transfer. I would much rather have time for a snack at the pier than spend the last hour in traffic checking my watch.

What the Cebu to Bohol Ferry Is Like

After travelling down from Malapascua, I was happy to sit still for a couple of hours. I watched a film during the crossing, and business class made that part of the travel day comfortable.

Bring something downloaded to watch, read or listen to. Keep headphones, a charged phone and a light layer in your smaller bag so you do not need to open your main luggage.

Your valuables and essentials should stay with you within the operator’s cabin-baggage rules. For me, that means travel documents, money and delicate electronics such as a camera or dive computer.

If you are checking a dive bag, pack it securely and label it with your contact details. A waterproof pouch is also useful for your phone and documents during boarding and transfers.

The crossing itself took around two hours on my trip. Remember that your full travel day includes getting to the pier, checking in, disembarking and reaching your accommodation.

Arriving in Tagbilaran and Getting to Panglao

Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol

After collecting your luggage, you can meet a prearranged driver or find transport at the port.

Drivers approached me as I left the arrival area. I negotiated a car transfer to Panglao for PHP 400, then paid PHP 500 including a tip. Tricycle quotes were around PHP 400 too, so the car made sense with my luggage.

Use that as a reference from my trip, rather than a fixed fare. Show your exact accommodation address and agree on the total price before getting in.

My transfer took about 20 to 30 minutes, but Panglao is not one single drop-off point. Your hotel’s location matters, so have the booking or map pin ready.

With dive equipment, I would prioritise a vehicle that fits your bags comfortably. Ask about luggage space and confirm that the quoted fare covers everyone travelling with you.

If you prefer having everything arranged, ask your accommodation for a pickup price before you arrive. Even if you choose your own driver, that quote gives you something useful to compare.

For the return journey, my tuk-tuk from Panglao to Tagbilaran Port cost around PHP 500. Remember to budget for that transfer too.

PRO TIP: Arrange your return transfer before departure day and confirm the pickup time. Tell the driver your ferry time, but also explain when you need to be at the terminal for check-in.

Cebu to Bohol Ferry FAQs

These are the questions I would settle before booking, especially if you are connecting from another island or travelling with dive equipment.

How long does the Cebu to Bohol ferry take?

My OceanJet crossing from Cebu City to Tagbilaran took around two hours. Allow extra time at both ends for check-in, luggage and road transfers.

Should you book the ferry in advance?

I recommend it, particularly if you need a specific sailing. Booking ahead lets you organise the rest of your journey without relying on a last-minute seat.

Is business class worth it?

I found it comfortable, and the higher baggage allowance is worth considering if you have dive gear. Compare the full cost with tourist class, including any luggage charges.

Does the ferry arrive in Panglao?

This route arrives at Tagbilaran Port. You then need a road transfer to Panglao or Alona Beach, so have your accommodation details ready.

Can you connect after a flight into Cebu?

You can plan that connection, but allow for flight delays, baggage collection, traffic and ferry check-in. If the schedule leaves you very little room, choose a later sailing or stay overnight in Cebu.

The Wrap Up: Cebu to Bohol Ferry

The Cebu to Bohol ferry was a comfortable part of my journey after the transfer from Malapascua. Once I had checked in and sorted my bags, I could sit down, watch a film and enjoy the break.

For your trip, book ahead, weigh your luggage and leave enough time to reach the pier. Have your Panglao transfer figured out too, especially if you are carrying dive equipment.

Then you can settle into the crossing and start thinking about the more enjoyable decisions, like where to eat when you arrive. Safe travels!
